Online endurance performance

I was invited to participate of Proyecto Casa Intervenida, a curatorial initiative of group exhibitions in people’s houses in Buenos Aires, Argentina. 
 

But as I was here, in NY, I provided the audience in Buenos Aires with a simple interactive installation consisting of a computer and a tablet. Through those devices, they would be connected with me.

The computer screen displayed the desktop of my computer. This way, the audience was seeing whatever I would be doing on my laptop in NY. (I would be sharing different GIFs, notes, and videos with them).  

 

On the tablet, they would be having a video call with me. Though I didn’t talk nor show my face, I would show them my studio space, zooming in and out on details of what I was doing. It was like having a hand-held camera, which allowed them to explore my studio and follow my actions. Some of them would talk with me and ask questions. My way of responding was visually, through images and notes or GIFs. It was an interactive and participatory piece, which was fueled by the participation of the audience. 

 

So, I would be in my studio in NY, performing during the whole time the exhibition in Buenos Aires was open to the public.

 

In this piece, I used technology as a simple accessible and familiar way for the audience to connect with me, which allowed me to be present in the whole duration of the exhibition.

 

This endurance performance lasted the whole duration of the exhibition, every day from 11 am - 7 pm. At 7 pm, the piece would end with me playing the cello. I will perform with the cello at 7 pm NY time, and also when it was 7 pm in Argentina.
